M.E.D.I.C

M.E.D.I.C
A word with many negative values. Hard, tired, suffer, busy, no life etc. What is confusing me, all these words come from the medical students, the future doctors! Suffering with their own choice. Is it a regret? Or only sighing to keep them weak with no afford to be a great doctor?

One year going through this world gives me some clues abaout what M.E.D.I.C exactly is.

Yes, that year is indeed a hard life for a new comer like me. But yet, i not regret and enjoy it well. It is actually my world, your world and our world. It is all about us. I got free medical advice during the lecture, i learned about my self (to be honest, i do not really know who am i before), i started to realise the reality of human life, their complicatication and diseases and the best thing is i got the point to help others- a great chance to spread dakwah among people.

Learning medicine in the first year is not enough for me to get the view of  'reality'. Lecture is all about fact and theory. That's why, i try to get some experience from the seniors, doctors and some medical website. And also, try to involve myself with the community. Softskill- a skill of communication and experience with people is actually the most important element for a doctor. Why? Because we are dealing with human, not object. That is what  i learned from Simposium Mahasisiwa Perubatan Islam organised by PERUBATAN (our medical society of malaysian student in Egypt) during this summer break. We not treat the disease, but we treat the human, someone having life and feeling. We must consider all the biological, physiological, social as well as spiritual aspect of the patient because all of these contribute in healing.

All muslim doctors should have the most important mission in their lives which is to treat peole to get them closer to Allah. As you know, doctor is among the widest carier for dakwah. But still, most of the muslim doctors dont realise it. Let me show you some phenomenas that happen around us right now:

-Learning medicine with no struggle and just aiming to pass the exam without realising the responsibility of dakwah towards islamic generation.

-Learning medicine with struggle and just aiming to be excellenct in exam without realising the responsibility of dakwah towards islamic generation.

-Realising the responsibility of dakwah towards islamic generation, having great motivation to islah others but still not struggle to really understand medicine.

As a doctor, realising the responsibility of dakwah means that realising the responsibity towards knowledge as a medical student and also reponsibility towards community. A good doctor is a doctor who is honest to his knowledge, realistic and realising his resposibilities as abid and caliph either he is excellent in examination or not, but still, i am not denying that understanding well contribute to excellence in exam. Aiming the best understanding in learning medicine for sure, and also the best for understanding islam should be out targets because we are the future generation that should shift the world of islamic medicine!

So, why should a doctor keep sighing all the time while he actually knows his great future? Why still wasting time with something with no benefits at all? Why still not managing your time between what is most, more and less important regarding to all your responsibilities?

Keep thinking, doc! Just assume this article as a motivation and challenge to all the great doctors in the future. Insya Allah. May Allah with us.
